Youth Ministry Programs

Youth ministry programs at Shandon foster faith development and spiritual growth.  Sunday School classes, fellowship, mission trips and other events provide a variety of opportunities for youth to demonstrate and articulate their faith in the church, the community and the world.

Middler and Senior High Youth
Grades 6 & 7 – McDonald Youth House – Downstairs

"Caffeine & Commitment" – What kind of person do I want to be? How can my faith help me be the kind of person God is calling me to be? This series helps our youth begin to explore what it means to take their faith into their own hands. Teachers: Herb Blake, Barbara Brunson, Bill Chisolm, Lola Mauer

CONFIRMATION CLASS
8th Grade – McDonald House – Upstairs, turn right

Eighth graders are on a spiritual journey learning more about God's message as a Christian and a Presbyterian. The journey culminates in an invitation for students to profess their faith in Jesus Christ and become full-fledged members of Shandon. The winter session will focus on a series of questions that begin: "If I say I am a Christian…" Teachers: Richard Kennette, Linda McDonald, Mary Rogers, Mark Timbes

GRADES 9 – 12
McDonald House – Upstairs, turn left

"Questions for Life - Luke's View" by Akaloo. The study begins in the Bible but is propelled into our culture using movies, poetry, music, TV shows and various other media. The class is much more a discussion than a traditional teaching classroom. Students are encouraged to come with an open mind and plenty of thoughts and questions. Teachers: Sandra McKinney, Jennifer & Jesse Raley, Chris & Margaret Yeakel.
