Youth Ministry Programs

Youth ministry programs at Shandon foster faith development and spiritual growth.  Sunday School classes, fellowship, mission trips and other events provide a variety of opportunities for youth to demonstrate and articulate their faith in the church, the community and the world.

YOUTH SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sixth and Seventh Graders* – This class will be getting back to basics, focusing on good, old-fashioned Bible study. This year’s lessons will focus on the Old Testament and then next year on the New Testament so that in the course of two years, our middlers will have a strong foundation of biblical knowledge to prepare them for Confirmation class in their 8th grade year. The class will be using the “We Believe: Faith Questions” curriculum.

Confirmation* – For Eighth Graders, this class is designed to prepare our young people for membership in the Presbyterian Church. This class will focus on the history and formation of the Christian Church in the U.S.A., the specifics of worship in the Presbyterian Church (USA), general knowledge of reformed theology and finally a series of lessons focused on the statement “If I say I am a Christian…” which will help our confirmands to think critically about how their faith has an impact on their daily lives.

Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth Graders* – In this class, our high schoolers will move out from the Confirmation curriculum and delve deeper into the world in which they live, exploring through discussion, film and music how our faith intersects with our daily living. Students will start from the Bible and move through various forms of media and discussion tying biblical themes into the complex world of the modern teenager. The class will be using Smith & Helwys’ “Intersections” curriculum.

*All youth classes are in the McDonald Youth Center.
