Presbyterian Women

The purpose of  Presbyterian Women Circles is to
  • Provide personal and group fellowship
  • Pray together
  • Study the Bible together
  • Plan creatively for service – invite each woman to serve God through the use of her individual abilities.
  • Bring persons into awareness of Christ's power.
  • Create a redeeming fellowship of support.
  • Help those outside the church to know Christ and bring them into the fellowship of the church.

DEFINITIONS

BIRTHDAY OFFERING – Annual gift (May) in celebration of birthday of Presbyterian Women. The money goes for special causes in our country and in foreign countries.

BLESSING BOXES – Small Boxes to hold money expressing our gratitude to God for special blessings throughout the year. To be received at April circle meeting. This money is for the Trinity Presbyterian Women Scholarship Fund. Men and women who are going into Christian service may apply to Trinity Presbyterian Women to be considered for an award.

CIRCLE OF PRAYER & LEAST COIN FELLOWSHIP – Each woman makes a covenant to pray regularly each month for women in every part of the world and sets aside a penny a month as a visible symbol of her membership. Once a year the women bring their coins together. Gifts are given in the name of the whole fellowship for such projects as evangelism, service and ecumenical fellowship among women.

COLUMBIA FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE – Made up of friends of Columbia Theological Seminary who contribute at least $5.00 yearly and help in any way needed by the Seminary beyond its budget. The Seminary is located in Decatur, Georgia, for the training of ministers and Christian leaders. Supported by the Synods of Living Waters and South Atlantic.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY – Highest court of our church. It represents in one body all the churches of the Presbyterian Church USA..

GOOD SAMARITAN CIRCLE – In the case of a death of a church member who has no circle connection, the "Good Samaritan Circle" will contact the family and coordinate the serving of a meal or a reception and offer assistance as needed. This duty will rotate among the circles on a monthly basis.

HISTORICAL FOUNDATION – At Montreat, N.C., for preserving histories, pictures, memorials and relics of every local church.

MISSION HAVEN – Home for missionaries on furlough. Located at Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Georgia.

MISSION OPPORTUNITIES – Provides medical supplies for our church's missions and clinics. Contributions to this cause are made each year as part of our world mission program.

MONTREAT, N.C. – A conference center for the PC(USA) located near Black Mountain, North Carolina

PC(USA) THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA) – The reunited denomination formed in 1983 when the PSUS and UPCUSA united.

PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE – Co-educational college located in Clinton, S.C. Supported by the Synod of the South Atlantic.

PRESBYTERIAN HOME OF SOUTH CAROLINA – A retirement home for members of our denomination. There are six homes in the state; two in Clinton, one in Columbia, Florence, Summerville; and the Foothills Presbyterian Home near Easley., SC.

PRESBYTERIAN STUDENT CENTER –Shandon's ministry with Trinity Presbytery to students on the USC campus and other colleges in the greater Columbia area.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN OF TRINITY PRESBYTERY – Women in the 69 churches included in Trinity Presbytery are members of Presbyterian Women of Trinity Presbytery. An annual meeting is held in the spring, and a training workshop for local officers is also held. All women are encouraged to attend.

PRESBYTERY – The court of our church which consists of all ministers and churches within a certain district. There are 5 Presbyteries in South Carolina. We are in the Trinity Presbytery.

SERVING CIRCLE – Women who are not able to participate in monthly circles but wish to support Shandon Presbyterian Women by helping to prepare or serve food as needed.

SYNOD – Sixteen Presbyteries make up the Synod of the South Atlantic. They are located in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

THANK OFFERING – An offering collected at the November meeting. It is a part of the celebration of creative ministries. Part of the offering goes to community health work and part goes to foreign countries. Funds are also used to pay shipping costs for sewing for missions supplies.

THORNWELL HOME - Home and school, in Clinton, for children whose home situation has become difficult or impossible.

WILLIAM BREARLEY HOME – A home in Montreat given as a memorial to the Rev. William Brearley. South Carolina ministers may stay there free of charge. Other Presbyterians may stay for a nominal cost. Also known as South Carolina Home.
