CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
PRESCHOOL
Shandon’s Crib Room (107b) and Toddler Room (107) provide an atmosphere of love, warmth and acceptance, helping these children to establish positive associations with the Church. Twos (Room 104) will be using the “Little Lambs” series by Faith Alive Resources. Its main purpose is to introduce young children to the Bible stories about God and his Son, Jesus.
Threes (Room 102) and Fours (Room 105) are using the “Wee Believe” curriculum developed by Presbyterians for Presbyterians. It builds foundations to help young children learn about God’s love for them. In “Wee Believe,” we want children to hear that God loves them no matter what. Sessions in the fall quarter explore identity: Noah, Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac, Joseph, Hannah, David, and Mary.
YOUNGER ELEMENTARY
Kindergarteners (Room 114), First Graders (Room 109) and Second and Third Graders (Room 205) are using “We Believe.” They will learn about messengers of God: Joseph, Moses and Aaron, Deborah, Elijah, Amos, Isaiah, Micah, Esther, and Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist.
OLDER ELEMENTARY
Fourth and Fifth Graders (Room 207) are also using “We Believe” and will be learning about messengers of God.
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH
Sixth and Seventh Graders* – This class will be getting back to basics, focusing on good, old-fashioned Bible study. This year’s lessons will focus on the Old Testament and then next year on the New Testament so that in the course of two years, our middlers will have a strong foundation of biblical knowledge to prepare them for Confirmation class in their 8th grade year. The class will be using the “We Believe: Faith Questions” curriculum.
Confirmation* – For Eighth Graders, this class is designed to prepare our young people for membership in the Presbyterian Church. This class will focus on the history and formation of the Christian Church in the U.S.A., the specifics of worship in the Presbyterian Church (USA), general knowledge of reformed theology and finally a series of lessons focused on the statement “If I say I am a Christian…” which will help our confirmands to think critically about how their faith has an impact on their daily lives.
Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth Graders* – In this class, our high schoolers will move out from the Confirmation curriculum and delve deeper into the world in which they live, exploring through discussion, film and music how our faith intersects with our daily living. Students will start from the Bible and move through various forms of media and discussion tying biblical themes into the complex world of the modern teenager. The class will be using Smith & Helwys’ “Intersections” curriculum. *All youth classes are in the McDonald Youth Center.
